Whilst we try our best to ensure that PE lessons never change, there may be times when teachers need to swap or rearrange class PE slots. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school at all times so that they can fully participate in their PE lessons.

PE kit should include:

  • Black PE shorts
  • A plain t-shirt in white or in your child's house colours (Trent, Rother or Derwent)
  • Pumps or sensible, clean trainers for outdoor sports

Children should remove earrings before school on PE lesson days. Those with recently pierced ears should bring plasters and apply them before their lesson. Long hair must be tied up before PE lessons.

Other jewellery and extreme hairstyles are not permitted as part of the school uniform policy.

Dance and Gymnastics lessons where children may use mats and larger apparatus require bare feet, shorts and t-shirt. This is to ensure strong grip and accurate foot placement which cannot be achieved when wearing footwear and ensure children are safe when moving at height. When PE lessons take place outside in colder weather, tracksuit bottoms and long-sleeved tops are permitted. Sports shirts (football, rugby etc) and shorts are not permitted in any PE lesson.

Children should ensure they have a water bottle in school on every school day but this is particularly important on PE days with the need to remain hydrated. This should contain water only and those who bring juice will be asked to empty and refill bottles once they arrive at school.

Children who are unable to take part in the physical elements of a PE lesson will still be expected to participate in Peer-Assessment and Theory based activities. Teachers should be informed by parents before the start of the school day in which the PE lesson takes place.
